Scarlet and Violet are here, and we're completing our Gym tests for better or worse - so let's look at the Secret Menu Item in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and how we can work out what it is.
One of the Gyms in Paldea is a Normal-type gym, located in Medali. Like Paldea's other gyms, this too has an interesting trial to complete before you can actually battle the gym leader. This time around, it involves some Secret Menu Items.
To help you get started in the new region of Paldea, we recommend checking out how to get Herba Mystica and how to get Nature Mints. Want some regional Mons? Here's how to get a Flamigo and Paldean Tauros!
What is the Normal Gym test in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?
Upon arriving at the Normal-type Gym in Medali, you'll be told about the Gym Trial that you need to complete. The trial is to order a secret Special Menu Item at the Treasure Eatery, a restaurant on the east side of Medali in front of the Pokemon Center. It is the only building you can actually enter aside from the gym.
You'll need to find three other clues and answers on top of the one you're given, by finding three other Academy students in Medali. They will give you the clues when you beat them in battle. Once you have them, you need to work out what they mean...
What is the Secret Menu Item in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?
Each of the four clues gives an answer which is part of the secret order that'll lead you to the mystery item. However, you can do them in any order you want - just remember the answers!
The first clue is the one you're given at the Gym. You are told to "find out how the regulars season their dishes." Ask around in the Treasure Eatery restaurant and an NPC will tell you the answer: "Lemon."
The second clue can be found by battling a girl in Naranja Academy uniform just outside of the Gym building. She has one Pokemon, which is an Ursaring. Once you beat her, the clue she gives is "to look for a dark spot surrounded by stairs." She says she hasn't got a clue where it is, but it's right behind her. Head down the stairs and to the gated tunnel. Interact with the gate and you'll find the answer: "Fire Blast."
Next up is Santiago the Student, found on a street at the back of Medali, by a bench. He has a Dunsparce. The clue he gives is to "listen really closely to the blue bird Pokemon." A little bit of looking around will lead you to a man with a Squawkabilly on his head, on the corner of the same street. It says a few things, but what you're looking for is "Meedyum," or medium.
The fourth and final clue can be found by battling Adara, in front of the Pokemon Center, in amongst some tables and food stalls. She has a Gumshoos and a Greedent, but both can be easily beaten. The clue is "to look for something that's the odd one out at one of the ice cream stands." Head to the nearby stands, and look at the pink and white one. It sells Grilled Rice Balls as well as ice cream.
Now that you've figured out all four answers from the clues, head back to the restaurant and approach the waiter. The correct order to pass the Gym trial is as follows:
- Grilled Rice Balls
- Medium Size
- Fire Blast style
- With Lemon
After that, it's on to the battle!
