Remnant 2 replaces the original class system with archetypes. This feature adds greater room for customisation, so as well as your first archetype and its perks, you get to unlock and equip a secondary class, too. Your primary and secondary archetypes greatly impact your skills and gameplay. So, let’s see how to unlock and use secondary archetypes in Remnant 2.
So your primary archetype is pretty straightforward. It'll be your main one and the one that you'll be levelling up faster. Having said that, unlocking the dual archetypes feature and getting your secondary archetype slotted can be a little tricky, as doing this requires you to discover trait points and craft engrams.
But the grind is totally worth it, though, as dual archetypes provide you with additional skills and perks. So, let’s jump in and get started!

How to unlock and use secondary archetypes in Remnant 2
Before you can slot in your secondary archetype, you need to unlock the ability to dual archetype. Consequently, this is done by discovering 10 trait points in the game. As you defeat world bosses or locate Tomes of Knowledge across different realms, you will accumulate these trait points quickly.
The next step is actually unlocking your second archetype. Your main archetype is the one you start with. For your second archetype, you need to purchase particular items from different NPCs in Ward 13. But what item and from which vendor you need to buy depends on the archetype you want. Each of these can be bought for 1500 scrap each.
Archetype | Item | NPC |
---|---|---|
Hunter | War Medal | Brabus |
Challenger | Enswell | Reggie |
Handler | Broken Whistle | Mudtooth |
Medic | Medic Pin | Norah |
In addition to these, you can also discover items such as the Philosopher’s Stone to unlock secret classes such as the Alchemist or the Gunslinger.
Craft engram
So now you are all set to equip your secondary archetype. All you need to do is to go to Wallace in Ward 13 and turn the item into an engram. Then you can equip that archetype into the primary or secondary slot. However, note that the new archetype will always start at level 1, and you will have to grind it to higher levels to unlock all the benefits.
It's also worth keeping in mind that you do get the benefit from the skills and perks of both archetypes. However, the distinction between the two is important as the Prime Perk is only active for your chosen primary archetype. As you mix and match archetypes, your character build will also receive unique titles. So all you need to do is figure out which combination of archetypes suits your playstyle best.
