Need to know how long Sea of Stars takes to beat? Sabotage Studio’s retro RPG Sea of Stars is now out and available to play. It’s a prequel to their previous game, The Messenger, and is a love letter to retro RPGs such as Chrono Trigger. You play as two heroes named Valere and Zale who harness the powers of the sun and the moon to defeat an evil alchemist known as The Fleshmancer.
But it’s been getting pretty decent reviews, too. So many critics are praising its pixel art graphics as well as its soundtrack, composed by legendary musician Yasunori Mitsuda. The PC version is currently sitting at a mark of 88 on Metacritic, so it's certainly one to keep an eye on.
But if you’re wondering how long it is going to take you to complete, don’t worry, as this guide has got you covered.
How long is Sea of Stars?
The length of a playthrough of Sea of Stars will change depending on what kind of player you are. Those who opt for a more streamlined experience, focusing mainly on the main storyline, can expect to reach the game's conclusion and witness the credits roll after about 25 to 30 hours of gameplay.
However, the game does have some side activities that might distract you. Diversions like side quests and engaging in relaxed pursuits such as fishing beckon, and so these optional endeavours could extend a player's game to well over 40 hours.
But in a world where many RPGs are pushing the 100-hour mark, it’s refreshing to see a game that can be completed in a relatively short span of time. For example, Pete Hines of Bethesda fame recently said their upcoming space epic, Starfield, has taken him between 150-160 hours, and he’s not even close to completing it yet. So, if you’re looking for a game to play that won’t completely take over your life, Sea of Stars might be just what you’re looking for.
It’s available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Steam. You can also play it on Xbox and PC Game Pass.
