Curses are normally something you’d want to avoid, but that isn’t the case with Rare’s nautical action-adventure game. In this guide, we’ll show you how to get Curses in Sea of Thieves to give your pirate's appearance an extra bit of flair.
Sea of Thieves players seek out Curses because they are actually cosmetic items in the game. Becoming a pirate requires you to be intimidating and cutthroat so having a Curse will definitely help you look the part.

How to get Sea of Thieves Curses
There are eight Curses in Sea of Thieves at the time of writing this guide, and each one is obtained through different means. Here’s a quick rundown of each Curse in the game and how to obtain them.
- Blessing of Athena’s Fortune – Apply a green glow to your pirate’s entire body. Obtained by going through the Blessing of Athena’s Fortune ceremony which requires you to have the Pirate Legend title and Guardians of Fortune Allegiance of at least 100.
- Legendary Blessing of Athena’s Fortune – Gives your whole body a golden glow. Purchasable from the Athena’s Fortune shop for 1,000,000 Gold after obtaining the Pirate Legend title.
- Curse of Sunken Sorrow – Give your pirate glowing blue eyes with blue and purple wavy marks going down your chest and back. You can get this Curse by completing the Curse of the Sunken Kingdom commendation.
- Curse of the Order – Your eyes become completely black with dark streaks running down across your face from them. Complete the Fateful Memories commendation to obtain this Curse.
- Shores of Gold Curse – Apply splotches of gold across your pirate’s face and body. Acquired by completing the Seeker of Grand Adventure commendation.
- Skeleton Curse – Gain the appearance of a skeleton. You can get the Skeleton Curse by having a Reputation of at least 75 with the Reaper’s Bones and the Champion of the Flame promotion.
- The Ashen Curse – Certain parts of the body appear burnt while the eyes and any scars have a flamelike glow. The inside of your chest also gives off a glow, showing the silhouette of your ribcage. Given as a reward for completing the Blackwyche Reborn commendation.
- Legendary Curse – The Legendary Mark is applied to your chest along with giving your eyes a white glow. Obtain by purchasing it from the Athena’s Fortune shop after reaching allegiance level 105 with the Guardians of Fortune.
