In Stardew Valley, players can build a thriving farm, befriend villagers, and enjoy various mini-games, including farming, foraging, and fishing. While fishing can be challenging at times, it’s an essential skill for those looking to boost their profits, gather unique gifts, or cook tasty recipes.
That's where the Goby fish comes in—a rare catch among Stardew Valley's many fish. Goby can only be found in select locations and requires specific bait and lures. If you aim to catch one, this guide provides the best strategies to help you reel it in.
Where to Find Goby Fish
The Goby fish is a rare and unique catch in Stardew Valley, found exclusively at the twin waterfalls in Cindersap Forest. Head to Cindersap Forest and locate the twin waterfalls east of the Abandoned House to catch one. Make sure to fish in this area, as Goby can only be found here.
Look for the two waterfalls and cast your line into either pool to catch the Goby. Be careful not to cast into the surrounding lake, as this will attract other types of fish. You can fish for the Goby at any time of day and in any season, so there is no need to wait for specific weather or seasons.
How to Get Goby Fish
To catch the elusive Goby Fish, equip a high-quality rod, like the Iridium Rod, which lets you attach both baits and lures for a better chance. Avoid using the Training Rod, as it doesn’t work for rare catches like Goby. Use Goby-specific bait to boost your odds—this bait can be bought from Willy’s shop or crafted using a Goby in the Bait Maker.
Best Lures for Goby Fishing
One of the best ways to increase your Goby catch rate is by attaching a Curiosity Lure to your fishing rod. This lure is often found in places like Skull Cavern or Quarry Mines and increases your chance of catching rare fish, including the Goby, by 30%. Alternatively, you can also use Sonar Lure, which shows you what type of fish is on your line after casting.
If you prefer a reliable source of Goby, place one in a Fish Pond. They will reproduce every four days. The initial pond can hold three fish, but it can expand to ten fish after completing some quests.
What to Do with the Goby Fish
Once you have successfully caught a Goby, it has several uses. You can sell it for a high price. If you have the Angler profession, the value can go up to 450g. You can also use Goby in cooking, particularly for dishes like Sashimi, Maki Roll, and Quality Fertilizer, which call for any type of fish.
Avoid eating Goby directly, as it is a poisonous fish and will drain your energy.
