Mastery in Stardew Valley opens up exciting new opportunities for seasoned players. Once players reach level 10 in all five main skills—Farming, Mining, Foraging, Fishing, and Combat—they unlock access to the Mastery Cave in Cindersap Forest. Inside this hidden cave, they can trade mastery points for powerful upgrades, tools, and items, rewarding their dedication with valuable enhancements.
Mastery points are not obtained directly and require you to stack them up by gaining experience in every skill, even after maxing them out. This may seem daunting at first, but there are a few ways to speed up the process. This guide will help you through every process that will help you get Mastery Points in Stardew Valley.
How to Get Mastery Points
Before you can acquire any Mastery Points in Stardew Valley, you will first need to unlock them by maxing out all available skills.
With the Mastery system, each skill gains experience even after reaching level 10. These experience points are now converted into mastery points. Previously, any extra experience earned beyond level 10 had no purpose, but now, it contributes to filling up the mastery point bar, making every bit of progress valuable.
Ways to Gain Mastery Points
Skill-Based Activities:
After unlocking mastery, you can continue performing tasks related to each skill, like planting crops, mining ore, foraging, fishing, and defeating monsters. The experience earned from these activities will go toward mastery points. Each skill type grants mastery points at the same rate as its original experience gain rate, except for Farming, which contributes at half the rate.
Skill Books:
Skill books offer a quick way to gather mastery points. You can buy them from the Bookseller when they visit the valley, and they substantially boost mastery progress. Although these books are unique, they aren’t always in stock, so check regularly to expand your collection.
How to use Mastery Points
To spend mastery points, you must visit the Mastery Cave hidden in the Cindersap Forest. You can find this cave south of Leah's cottage, near a door placed in the hillside. After entering, you will see a setup with a letter from Grandpa, a pedestal, and five pillars, one for each skill.
Each pillar allows you to redeem mastery points for specialized upgrades once you have accumulated enough. When you reach enough mastery points, approach the pillar for the skill you want to upgrade and follow the prompt to redeem your points. Choose your upgrades wisely to match your gameplay strategy because the cost of mastery levels increases with each level.
