Summer Squash is one of the most valuable crops in Stardew Valley. However, it can’t be directly bought; it must be grown from Summer Squash seeds. These seeds are rare and unavailable in regular in-game stores, so you’ll need to search the Valley to find them.

Finding Summer Squash seeds in Stardew Valley can be a time-consuming process. You’ll need to dig through artifact spots, explore the mines, and barter with NPCs to get your hands on these rare seeds. While it may take some effort, the rewards are definitely worth it. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to find Summer Squash seeds and grow the plant in Stardew Valley.

Since Summer Squash seeds are not available at regular stores, you will need to find them throughout the valley. Here is a breakdown of all the ways to collect these seeds:

Artifact Spots

One of the primary ways to obtain Summer Squash seeds is by digging up green-colored Artifact Spots from late Spring (around Spring 24) through Summer 20. These Artifact Spots appear randomly on tillable land and may contain Summer Squash seeds. You can identify these spots from their long, wiggling strands.

Treasure Chests and Mine Crates

If you have unlocked Fishing Mastery, you can also catch Golden Fishing Treasure Chests between Spring 24 and Summer 20 to get Summer Squash seeds. Crates and barrels found in the Skull Cavern can also contain these seeds.

Barter with Mrs. Raccoon

After completing the second Raccoon Family Quest, you will unlock Mrs. Raccoon’s Store, where you can exchange 15 Sap for one Summer Squash Seed. This option can be handy for players who have an excess of sap and need a steady source of seeds. Visit Mrs. Raccoon’s store regularly to stock up on seeds.

Grow Summer Squash from Seeds

Once you have the seeds, plant them at the start of summer to get the best yields. Summer Squash initially takes six days to grow and then regrows every three days. Remember that these plants only grow in summer, but if you plant them in the Greenhouse or on Ginger Island, they’ll continue to grow year-round.

Uses for Summer Squash

You can sell raw Summer Squash, but turning it into Pickled Squash in a Preserves Jar or Squash Juice in a Keg increases its value. These processed items sell for much more, especially if you've chosen the Artisan profession.

In addition to selling or using it in recipes, Summer Squash can be gifted to most villagers, as many like it. However, a few villagers, like Abigail, Haley, Jas, Sam, and Vincent, dislike it. You can also use it in the Sewing Machine with Cloth to create a yellow Tank Top or as a yellow dye in Emily’s and Haley’s Dye Pot.
