Do you want to know if Tekken 8 is cross-platform? Then we'll answer that question for you.

Fighting games heavily rely on having a good number of players to keep their online modes active. If there is no cross-platform option available, competitive players tend to choose a specific version, leaving other players with a deserted gaming experience.

So, if you're wondering whether you need to buy a new gaming console to play Tekken 8 with your friends or if you can play it on your current preferred platform, in this guide, you'll find out whether or not the upcoming Bandai Namco fighting game features cross-platform play.

To get the big doubt out of the way, yes, Tekken 8 will be the first game in the series to feature cross-platform play or crossplay for short.

The first confirmation of crossplay for Tekken 8 came from game director Katsuhiro Harada, who responded to a fan via Twitter in April 2023 who was curious about the game's online functionality, specifically if it would feature the long-awaited crossplay implementation.

Crossplay? Of course I (sic) will. When the previous generation consoles were released, I had already proposed crossplay between the two platformers (sic). However, at that time, they were at odds with each other over their mutual interests (and P2P security issue) & repeatedly refused

Harada is probably talking about how Sony and Microsoft weren't willing to play ball regarding cross-play between their respective consoles during the previous generation. This resulted in very few high-profile games being available with cross-play between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the initial years after their launch.

Now that the feature has been standardised to a certain degree, fighting games more than any other genre have reaped the rewards, with plenty of titles enjoying a healthy player base, such as Street Fighter 6. Still, a few like Mortal Kombat 1 have shipped without this much-needed integration, much to the dismay of NetherRealm fans.

So there you have it. Now that you know Tekken 8 features cross-platform play, why not check out all the editions available to see which one suits you ahead of release?
