Hitchhiker chasing Ana

The best Hitchhiker build in Texas Chain Saw Massacre is going to be hard to nail. This is, in part, due to the difficulty of the character. You might think every member of the Family is designed to be a killer, but that assumption will only get you so far. Arguably it will get you to Hitchhiker, and then your preconceived notions of what makes the Family tick suddenly start to crumble.

Hitchhiker is elusive, cunning, and challenging. His stats aren’t great, his perks are awkward, and his play style is far more support-oriented. Hitchhiker can kill survivors, but it's going to take a lot more work. Hitchhiker is not for the faint of heart, nor is he a character suited to newcomers.

Overview of Hitchhiker in Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Hitchhiker relies on planning more than anything else to overcome his victims. Even then, Hitchhiker is not really meant to kill anyone. He is a support piece that enables everyone else to do his dirty work. Unlike Cook, Hitchhiker cannot flex into a damaging role, so it’s best to lean on his strengths.

Sadly, his strengths are heavily tilted towards your knowledge of the game. Hitchhiker lays traps in key areas, harvests blood to keep Grandpa fed, and harasses enemies that take a wrong turn. If you don't know all the maps, you are not going to have a good time playing Hitchhiker.

Hitchhiker’s attributes in Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Hitchhiker, like Sissy, has an interesting array of stats. His defining characteristic is his low savagery which comes in at a lowly 15. This makes it the second-lowest stat in the game, and not one worth pushing. Even with investment, Hitchhiker doesn’t do that much damage, and he certainly pales in comparison to Johnny and Leatherface. Unlike Sissy, he doesn’t have a way to easily incapacitate people to make up for his low damage. Scrap savagery, it’s a trap stat.

Blood harvesting is up next and it comes in at a below-average 22. This stat is worth bumping up, however. Hitchhiker is a support piece, so being able to harvest blood effectively is key to his game plan. The more blood he can gather, the fast Grandpa will level up. That being said, we wouldn’t consider this his primary stat

That honour goes to endurance which starts at 28. This is above average, but without investment, Hitchhiker won’t have the gas to run around the property and chase people when needed. Mobility is key for Hitchhiker, so more endurance is always a good thing.

Attribute progression for Hitchhiker in Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Since we are ignoring savagery, we are going to invest heavily in endurance. We recommend taking this to at least 40, although you can hit the cap of 50 if you want stamina for days.

Since blood harvesting is our secondary stat, put all remaining points into it. The higher this gets, the more effective you will become as a supporting character.

Hitchhiker is a difficult character to play, but fairly straightforward when it comes to levelling up.

Hitchhiker’s unique ability in Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Hitchhiker’s ability, Trap, is by far the hardest in the game to use. It requires an in-depth knowledge of Texas Chain Saw Massacre to have any impact at all, and this takes time. If you are playing Hitchhiker as your first character, it’s unlikely you will get much use out of this.

It does the following:

Set traps on the ground, snaring, and injuring any Victims who step on them.

You get three traps, and where you place them can drastically alter the course of a game. Placing them willy-nilly will get you nowhere. You need to know key travel routes, the location of key items, and even where the generators, batteries, and exits are. Maps are large in Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and you need to know them like the back of your hand.

In a standard game with Hitchhiker, your plan is to drop traps in three key locations. Once they are set, your whole thing is securing the property, patrolling exits and gathering blood for Grandpa. It’s a thankless job, but a good Hitchhiker can escape a nightmarish proposition.

Best early game perks for Hitchhiker in Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Hitchhiker has some great perks, but they aren’t the easiest to get lined up. We’ve had to rely heavily on RNG in this build to get Hitchhiker to sing. Remember you can respec at any time for free. If you don’t get the random perk you need, respec and try again. It might take a while, sadly.

With Hitchhiker, we recommend going ‘up’ and to the ‘right’ on the skill tree. This leads to some of his better perks.

Remember, all perks become more powerful as you use them. Stick with the same perks, and you will grow in strength far faster.

Scout

Hitchhiker doesn’t learn Scout naturally on this path, however, it is a powerful ability that can push Hitchhiker's mobility game. It provides a 5% buff to movement speed that scales to 15% at max level. The downside is a reduction in damage output, however, since Hitchhiker isn’t doing much damage anyway, this doesn’t really matter. If you pull Scout from a random node, it’s worth sticking with it.

Dinner Bell

The final random node perk and the one we wholeheartedly recommend you hunt down is Dinner Bell. This perk improves your traps by making it so anyone who gets caught in one is highlighted for the Family to see. Not only that, but Hitchhiker gains a substantial stamina boost for 15 seconds, allowing him to make his way to his prey.

Dinner Bell is outstanding, but like everything to do with Hitchhiker, it requires a solid grasp of each map and its layout. Well worth the tedium to get.

Universal Donor

This perk increases the amount of blood you gather from buckets. When combined with Hitchhiker’s high blood harvesting stat, Universal Donor shines bright. You can quickly escalate Grandpa with this perk, and that’s exactly what you want to do in the early game.

Tracker Tagged

The final perk we think is worth mentioning is Tracker Tagged. This perk highlights Victims who are hit by Hitchhiker's melee attack. The duration starts at 2 seconds and scales to 5, which might not seem like a long time, but it makes a huge difference. Even the smallest scrap of information is valuable when playing as the Family, and this provides a tasty morsel every time you land a hit.

Excited Grandpa / In Sync / Don’t Have All Day

For Grandpa perks you really can’t go wrong with any on this track. Excited Grandpa lets you trigger more Sonar, In Sync makes your focus more efficient, and Don’t Have All Day boosts your stamina. All of them are great, so pick whichever suits your playstyle.
