Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is finally here, and it is time to win the war for the Emperor!
The campaign of the game may not be the longest you have ever played (average 10-12 hours), but bookmarking your progress is always nice when you likely won't be stomping through in one sitting.
So, this guide will let you know how to save the game in Space Marine 2.
Can You Manual Save In Space Marine 2?
While manual saving would be the most convenient way to record your progress and take a break, we have some bad news for you.
There is no way to manually save in Space Marine 2.
Frustrating, yes. Sadly, it is also becoming an industry standard these days in many other games.
However, Space Marine 2 does have cross-platform saving, which is a most welcome feature despite the lack of a manual save option.
Saber has posted a couple of notes about saving offline and cross-saving on their official site:
Q: Will my progression be saved when playing offline?
A: Be reassured, in Campaign Mode, your progression will be saved on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S while playing offline.
For Operations Mode (PvE), you will need to be online to ensure your progress in PvE is saved. Offline progression will not carry over to your next session, so make sure you're connected to keep all earned perks, skins, and other rewards.
Q: Does cross-platform save work well?
A: Yes, cross-platform saves are fully functional through the platform Prism Ray Online Services (PROS).
How Do You Save The Game In Space Marine 2?
While there is no manual save option in Space Marine 2, the game will still save at set points. Instead, you have to rely on an auto-save feature that is a little tricky to predict when it is safe to leave the game without losing progress, as there is no on-screen indicator to let you know when a save is happening.
That said, there are a few places where you can guarantee a save has happened:
- When you fully complete a mission and return to base
- After fulfilling a mission objective
Both of these are the only ways to be sure that progress will be retained. However, be careful when finishing a mission objective and leaving the game, as there have been occasions while testing this method when the game did not save, and we were returned to a much earlier point in the mission.
So, the only surefire way to retain progress and save is to complete a mission fully and only leave the game once you return to base.
Sure, it is frustrating, as an indicator on screen is the norm for auto-save-only titles, but unless an update changes things, this is the only reliable method for saving progress at the moment.
The good thing is that if a mid-mission save has worked after finishing an objective, you can return to that exact point if you return to base and then head back to the same mission.
That's all we have for saving the game in Space Marine 2; we will update this guide should options change or if better methods are uncovered.
