Struggling to work out how to climb in Xenoblade Chronicles 3? The open-world RPG doesn't make is easy to traverse its luscious lands from the get-go, with machines you might have taken advantage of in a few other games being a little less intuitive in this one. We'll help you out.
In Xenoblade Chronicles 3, you're tasked with travelling around its grand world on a mission to uncover the truth behind a war two sides fight with artificially engineered life that's predestined to last only ten years. To do that, you have to reach some faraway places, and without knowing how to climb walls, you probably won't make it.
Just getting started? We have a couple other Xenoblade Chronicles 3 guides worth opening up. Beyond that, check out our Octopath Traveler Champions of the Continent codes page if you're juggling a mobile JRPG on the side, or our Project Slayers codes page if you're into Roblox anime fan adventures.
How to Climb Ivy in Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Early into your adventure, you're bound to run into some purple growth on certain walls. Visibly reaching high up onto a cliff, path, or overpass, it might seem like they're there just to tease you.
After all, running, jumping, and slamming into them won't see you magically scale them like an action hero. And, unlike Genshin Impact or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you can't just crawl up any old verticle surface like you're Spider-man.
In reality, climbing ivy in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a waiting game for the most part. It's an unlockable skill you'll get by following along with the story.
Luckily, it's one of the first of these unique traits you'll get. If you start to see more and more ivy on your travels, you know you're on the right path. The game sort of heavily hints when you're about to unlock the ability by having you wander over to an area with three or four ivy ladders leading straight up to your destination.
Right before you press on, however, you're intercepted by another character, Valdi, that, like the rest, wants to put an end to your existence. On paper, at least. Beat them in a battle, carry on with the quests that follow, and you'll soon inherit their ability to climb walls peppered with ivy around the world of Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
What Are the Wall Climbing Controls in Xenoblade Chronicles 3?
Once you have the skill (which you'll find in the Party Skills menu in case you're wondering what that was for) all you need to do is run at a climbable wall the same way you would in most other games. You'll naturally grab hold, and you'll be able to ascend/descend with the joystick, reaching new heights and secret areas in older zones.
If you want to jump off, just mash the B button a bit. Beware of fall damage, though. If you jump too far and knock yourself out, you'll likely reset to your last visited camp or landmark.
