Scurrying about trying to figure out how to get the Hylian Shield in Tears of the Kingdom? Link’s iconic shield retains its status as the best defensive option in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. You can obtain it relatively early on as long as you know what to do. It isn't going to have the staying power of the same bulwark in earlier games, but it's a neat memento to use in a pinch.
It requires a bit of preparation and the willingness to rush the game. However, the shield might be a bit overpowered and can almost make the early challenges a bit too easy. If you still want it, then we'll guide you on how to get the Hylian Shield in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.
Is the Hylian Shield good in Tears of the Kingdom?
The Hylian Shield offers exceptional defence, surpassing all other shields. From a defensive standpoint, that makes the Hylian Shield the best shield in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. Not only this, but you can get it almost as soon as you start the game, making it a top priority early on.
With the addition of the Fuse mechanic and how strong this shield is, it really is one of the best pieces of gear you'll find on your adventure.
Can the Hylian Shield break in Tears of the Kingdom?
Essentially similar to other shields in the game, the Hylian Shield has durability, and will eventually break with enough use. Shield surfing, parrying, and blocking will all contribute to degradation. Strapping a Zonai device like a rocket or flame emitter will wear it down even quicker.
How to get the Hylian Shield in Tears of the Kingdom
The Hylian Shield is stashed away inside Hyrule Castle, similar to Breath of the Wild. Before embarking on the quest to acquire the Hylian Shield, we recommend you get the Paraglider and stock up on some Stamina food. This will let you use a relatively easier method to infiltrate Hyrule Castle.
Look for a suitable spot to enter beneath the castle, leading to an area resembling an ancient dock. At this point, construct a boat to head inside or glide down into one of the exposed cave areas jutting out from the underside of the castle's landmass.
Now you have two options. You can proceed along the given path (and into a very tough fight) or swim or glide across the lake to the rock formation on the other side. Afterwards, just climb up the wall with the banner to skip the fight entirely.
Proceed along your chosen path until you reach a room featuring a unlit torch. Set it alight to spawn a chest containing the coveted Hylian Shield.
