The Zonai are an enigmatic tribe that no longer exists. At least, we didn’t see them in Breath of the Wild. Ancient ruins and numerous legends from other tribes are the only remnants left of the Zonai.
Breath of the Wild was the first game where the Zonai appeared, so we don’t have much information about them. However, there are some interesting facts you should know before playing Tears of the Kingdom.
Zonai culture in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
The Zonai are known as a barbaric tribe in Zelda lore. There is an armour in Breath of the Wild that has a Zonai reference in its description. Yes, we are talking about the Barbarian set. You can get it by completing various dungeons, like Lomei Labyrinths. These locations are built by the Zonai, so there you can learn many interesting things about this tribe.
Also, it seems that the Zonai were not a simple tribe of barbarians. Actually, they were quite advanced and created magic, artefacts, and different buildings you can find across the world.

The religion of the Zonai tribe is one of the most interesting topics. They praised the cult of the three animals. These are the Dragon, the Owl, and the Boar. There is a theory that these creatures represent the three aspects of the Trinity.
If you look closely at the Zonai ruins, then you will see various statues, totems, and other symbols that depict these three animals. So, this is the best method to find out if the dungeon you are exploring is connected to the Zonai or not.
What will happen to the Zonai in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?
The fate of the Zonai in the upcoming game is still unknown. So, we can’t say for sure if Nintendo has plans to add them to Tears of the Kingdom, or leave their secrets undiscovered.
The new game has a couple of interesting details that we've noticed in relation to the Zonai. For example, the game's main logo has two dragons that look exactly like the Zonai statues. Also, the floating islands that appeared in the sky above Hyrule may belong to this tribe.
It’s hard to tell how big the Zonai influence is, but we can say for sure that they are very important to the game’s lore and are likely to have a major impact on the story.
