Your power in Zenless Zone Zero is significantly dependent on the characters at your disposal, which makes this a little complicated since it is, after all, a gacha game. Don’t worry though, there are a handful of incredible Zenless Zone Zero free characters that you can get with only a little leg work.
With various different roles and elements, these characters will be crucial in making the best Zenless Zone Zero team comps so that you can take on challenging ZZZ endgame activities like Shiyu Defense and Hollow Zero.
Zenless Zone Zero Free Characters
You can get the following six Zenless Zone Zero characters for free:
- Anby (Starter)
- Billy (Starter)
- Nicole (Starter)
- Corin (Pre-registration reward)
- Ben (Rookie on the Road event)
- Soukaku (Eridu Frontier event)
Starter Characters
During the opening chapter of the story, you will unlock three starter characters in ZZZ. These are all members of the Cunning Hares and will form your first team before unlocking access to the ZZZ banners system.
Character | Attribute | Fighting Style | Faction | Rank |
---|---|---|---|---|
Anby | Electric | Stun | Cunning Hares | A |
Billy | Physical | Attack | Cunning Hares | A |
Nicole | Ether | Support | Cunning Hares | A |
Anby Demara is an A-Rank Electric Stun character belonging to the Cunning Hares. This makes her an excellent pairing in Electric teams alongside Grace, Rina, or Anton, or in mixed teams with other Cunning Hares members. Stun damage in general is incredibly valuable as it can Daze enemies, causing them to take bonus damage.
Billy Kid is an A-Rank Physical Attack character and another member of the Cunning Hares. With two pistols, Billy is a great ranged damage dealer in Physical teams, alongside the likes of Piper, or with his other Cunning Hares companions.
Last but by no means least, Nicole Demara is an A-Rank Ether Support agent and the leader of the Cunning Hares. Nicole is a cornerstone in Ether teams due to her grouping and AoE damage potential, particularly considering the limited roster of Ether characters at launch. Due to her utility, however, Nicole is a valuable addition to many different teams in a more flexible role.
However, those are not the only free characters you can earn.
Free Event Characters
Alongside your starter team, you can also unlock three characters for free by taking part in various ZZZ events.
Character | Attribute | Fighting Style | Faction | Rank |
---|---|---|---|---|
Ben Bigger | Fire | Defense | Belobog Heavy Industries | A |
Corin Wickes | Physical | Attack | Victoria Housekeeping | A |
Soukaku | Ice | Support | Section 6 | A |
Corin Wickes is an A-Rank Physical Attack character and member of Victoria Housekeeping that can be claimed for free as part of the pre-registration event. For reaching 35 million pre-registrations, the developer is giving away this powerful character for free, all you have to do is head over to the events page and claim her unlock reward.
Next up, you can get Ben Bigger for free during the Rookie on the Road event. Complete main story missions, Proxy Primers, and more to progress through the Rookie on the Road beginner event and claim your rewards, including Ben. Ben is an A-Rank Fire Defense character, the only Defense unit at launch. This makes this bulky bear a valuable character to many different teams, whether it’s Fire or a Belobog Heavy Industries team. You can’t argue with free, right?
You can get the A-Rank Ice Support character Soukaku from the Eridu Frontier event. This event tasks you with completing the third stage in the Stable Node version of Shiyu Defense, an endgame activity unlocked after beginning the Chapter 2 Interlude section. Soukaku is an invaluable character for Ice teams alongside Ellen and Lycaon with her ability to freeze enemies and buff allies. Once more Section 6 characters have been added, Soukaku will also be strong with other members of this faction, including Hoshimi Miyabi.
Those are all the Zenless Zone Zero free characters that you can unlock, including starter characters and event unlocks. Keep an eye on our ZZZ tier list to see where they rank and stay up to date with the latest ZZZ codes to help you get the most out of each limited event banner.
