IOI Interactive announced a slew of new additions to Hitman 3 in year two, and one of the biggest is Hitman 3 Freelancer Mode. Freelancer places greater emphasis on strategic planning and thinking on your feet, and IOI said it’s planned for launch sometime in spring 2022.
Hitman 3 Freelancer Mode brings back Agent 47’s Safehouse, which is where you’ll plan your missions, choose your infiltration outfit, and pick out your weapons. You can also design the house and its various rooms with new furniture obtained by completing missions.

IOI Reveals Hitman 3 Freelancer Mode, a New Roguelike Campaign for 47
Freelancer Mode campaign takes 47 across the World of Assassination and randomizes which locations he’ll be visiting. The goal is taking out the leader of a criminal organization, but before you get to that point, you’ll have to eliminate lesser targets and gather intel on who the leader may be.
Each map has new, deadly NPCs that can alert the leader or who lie in wait to attack 47. Every campaign is set up differently, and the goal is to make you constantly stay alert, since you can’t memorize stage layouts anymore.
The roguelike design extends to items as well. 47 can buy new equipment from suppliers in a mission, but should he drop that item or fail the mission, it’s gone forever. Anything you make it out with becomes part of your arsenal back at the safehouse - assuming you don’t fail another mission while it’s in your possession.
The end of the Year 2 reveal stream also teased a new map built around a militarized beach and a jungle area, which will likely find its way into Freelancer Mode as well, whenever it launches.
IOI plans to launch Hitman 3 Freelancer Mode in spring 2022. Meanwhile, the World of Assassination trilogy is coming to Steam, PC VR, and Game Pass on January 20 as well.
