June 13, 2022: We updated the page with the latest on Hollow Knight: Silksong, including it's vague new release window.

It's been four years since Team Cherry's Hollow Knight first arrived, having been successfully funded through a Kickstarter campaign in 2014. Playing a nameless knight, we found ourselves traversing an ancient kingdom called Hallownest, one that's fallen to a plague.

Seeing high praise from critics, it sold over 3 million copies and fans have been patiently awaiting news on the sequel, Silksong. Revealed back in 2019, Silksong originally began life as DLC before evolving into a fully fledged sequel, bringing in a new protagonist called Hornet.

Though we've not heard much for a while, here's everything we know so far. Before that, though, why not check out the best Android action games if you're looking for something new to play on the go?

Release Date

Though no specific Silksong release date was announced alongside its latest trailer during the Xbox and Bethesda livestream this month, the publisher has confirmed that it's coming within the next 12 months and will launch on Game Pass at the same time.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Trailer

The latest Hollow Knight: Silksong trailer comes from the Microsoft and Bethesda showcase that premiered on June 12, 2022. Check it out above.

Is Hollow Knight: Silksong a New Game or DLC?

Hollow Knight: Silksong is confirmed to be a new paid game. It's not a DLC or expansion to the original Hollow Knight, which got a bunch of post-launch updates, add-ons, and expansions throughout its life.

Is Hollow Knight: Silksong a Sequel, Prequel, or Standalone Game?

Hollow Knight: Silksong is confirmed to be a sequel to the original game. Rather than controlling the nameless Knight from the original, however, you'll wander around as Hornet, granting various new abilities revolving around Silk. Makes sense, right?

The details of the story itself are still relatively scarce, but it's safe to say you'll want to complete the original game before jumping into this one for maximum enjoyment. It's likely not entirely necessary, but it'll surely elevate the experience.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Platforms

Silksong will arrive for Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, and Nintendo Switch at launch. Despite Hollow Knight launching on PS4 and Xbox One too, we've not had any confirmation yet that it's coming to other consoles.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Gameplay

Just like its predecessor, Silksong will be a 2D Metroidvania action-adventure game, taking place in a haunted kingdom inhabited by bugs. This time around, we'll control Hornet, who fights using a needle. The game is planned to feature over 165 different enemies, alongside a variety of friendly NPCs.

Furthermore, it's previously been announced that Silksong includes a quest system that's comprised of (at least) four sections: Hunt, Gather, Wayfinder and Grand Hunt. Hornet can also craft weapons and tools. Additionally, Hollow Knight's checkpoint system is returning.

And that's it for Hallow Knight: Silksong for now. We'll update this page with more information - like the release date - when we know it. Until then, check out the latest Xbox Games With Gold additions.
