Horizon Forbidden West is an action role-playing game from Guerilla Games and it's the long-awaited sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn. Set six months after the end of the first game, a mysterious red blight is infecting the land. It's threatening to starve humanity and the rest of the world is slowly falling into ruin. Aloy must venture into the Forbidden West to find a way to stop it before it's too late.
On her adventure through the Forbidden West, Aloy will encounter new threats in the form of dangerous machines, and a vengeful warrior called Regalla. Also, she'll encounter new allies that can help her on her quest to save the world. With a large storyline to follow and multiple side-quests to do, you definitely will not want to lose your progress.
In this guide, we're going to show you all of the ways that you can save your game.
How to Save Your Game
There are technically three ways you can save your game. One way is to rely on the Autosave function and the other two options are available at campfires. Here's everything you need to know about the saving options.
- Protect Yourself: Learn all about protective outfits in our Armour Guide.
Autosave
There is an autosave feature that triggers each time you progress past a certain point on a quest/in the main story. It's a great way to ensure you have a backup of your game progress, but if you're exploring the open-world outside of the quests, you might want to lean on Manual Saves.
Manual Save
There are two manual save options, but you need to access both of them through Campfires. They can be discovered across the map. If you do a pulse scan, your focus should tell you if there is one nearby. You can open up your map and a small campfire symbol will mark where they are on the map.
Once you get to a Campfire (as well as the fast travel options), you'll have 2 options. There will be:
- Quick Save: Press Triangle to quickly save your game into your most recent save file.
- Manual Save: Press Square to use manual save. You can do this to ensure your game is saved on your desired game file or you can make a new one.
We highly recommend using the manual save options throughout the game. They are extremely useful for saving your game if you're exploring the open world outside of any quests or errands.
Horizon Forbidden West is available for PS4 and PS5. If working your way through the main story becomes too heavy for you at points, there are plenty of other activities you can choose to participate in. Check out our Hunting Grounds guide to learn more about them and why they're worth doing if you want to improve your hunting skills. Also, check out our Cauldrons Guide. In the guide, we show you what these mysterious dungeons are, and why they are more useful than they first appear.
