In spite of Battlefield 2042's rocky release and post-launch struggles, the game has been showing some signs of recovery. DICE's commitment to fixing and improving Battlefield 2042 has been a long journey for the developer, and Season 6 promises to further polish and build upon the game's foundation. The release trailer for Season 6 paints a gory, and sinister depiction of the content coming in this season. Aptly named "Dark Creations", Season 6 will likely carry a darker tone than previous seasons. With the game now deep into its post-launch development, now may be the time to give the much-improved Battlefield 2042 a second chance.

What is the release date for Battlefield 2042 Season 6?
The Season 6 release date has recently been announced for Battlefield 2042. As confirmed by the Battlefield X, formerly known as Twitter, account, Season 6: Dark Creations will begin on October 10, 2023. In the patch notes released recently, it has been confirmed that "Update 6.0.0" will be deployed at 9 am BST, where the playlists will be immediately updated.
In accordance with previous seasons, Dark Creations will likely run for around three months. Unlike previous seasons, no new specialist has been announced for Season 6, however, plenty of other content awaits players, with a new map, new weapons, and more.
What is the new map added in Season 6?
Also announced on the Battlefield X account was the news that a new "claustrophobic CQC map" called Redacted is being added to the game. The map will be set in a secret underground facility in the Scottish Outer Hebrides, a group of islands off the north-west coast of Scotland.
Additionally, in the October 6 patch notes, DICE has revealed that the map has no outdoor areas, a first for the Battlefield series. The entire map will be underground, filled with biodomes, laboratories, and test sites.
This map will mark the first time we get to see the British Isles in Battlefield 2042, and is the first map set in Northern Europe since the release of Spearhead (Lapland, Sweden) in Season 3. DICE hopes the map can emulate some of Battlefield's most renowned close-quarters maps, such as Operation Métro and Operation Locker from Battlefields 3 and 4 respectively.
What new weapons will be added in Season 6?
Alongside the new map, several new weapons will be added to Battlefield 2042 with the release of Season 6. Below is a list of all the weapons confirmed to be coming in the Dark Creations season:
- VHX-D3 (Assault Rifle)
- L9CZ (Secondary Weapon)
- G428 (Designated Marksman Rifle)
On top of these new weapons, a couple of new gadgets and a new vehicle will be added in Season 6. You'll now have the option to equip throwable ammo and medical packs as a gadget, which is a long-awaited feature for many Battlefield stalwarts.
The new vehicle coming in Season 6 will be the "YUV-2 Pondhawk", which appears to be some kind of low-altitude flying quad bike. It looks like it'll be a ton of fun to use, particularly on more vertical maps like Exposure. Capable of carrying two people, get ready to grab a duo and weave your way across the map.
What will be in the Season 6 battle pass?
A new battle pass will be coming with the release of Dark Creations, with 100 tiers of rewards to be earned. The price of the battle pass will be the same price as passes from previous seasons, costing 1,000 BFC, or £8.99.
As ever, there'll be both free and premium rewards included in the battle pass. We've broken down all the known rewards included in the Season 6 battle pass below:
Free battle pass rewards
- Three new weapons
- Three new gadgets
- Five epic cosmetic skins
- 30 total rewards
Premium battle pass rewards
- 20% Seasonal XP Booster

What quality of life improvements are coming in Season 6?
On October 6, DICE revealed the Season 6 patch notes to fans, giving us some more insight on what to expect in Season 6, whilst confirming all that we knew so far. Within these patch notes, DICE highlighted a ton of QoL improvements they will be bringing to Battlefield 2042.
One improvement announced in the October 6 patch notes is that DICE will be improving vehicle handling considerably in Season 6, in particular ground vehicles. Now, ground vehicles will feel notably more varied in they drive, from tanks to dune buggies, with each vehicle having a more unique identity.
Another change DICE are implementing is an improved aim assist for controller players, allowing the player greater customisability over how high their aim assist is set.
