A full remake of the PS2 classic, Silent Hill 2 Remake is a bold new take on the iconic survival horror game. With the Silent Hill 2 Remake release date quickly approaching, we’ve compiled a list of everything you need to know about the new game.

Releasing in a packed year alongside titles like Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Black Ops 6, LEGO Horizon and more, Silent Hill 2 Remake is a very unique title for its release period. Not just as a remake of an internationally beloved classic, but also as a high-budget horror game that isn’t Resident Evil.

Without further ado, here’s everything you need to know about Silent Hill 2 Remake.

Silent Hill 2 Release Date

Developer Bloober Team and publisher Konami have confirmed the Silent Hill 2 release date for October 8, 2024. This means the game will be released before Halloween 2024, allowing gamers to experience the game during the spooky holiday season.

Silent Hill 2 Remake releases simultaneously on PC and PlayStation 5. However, the game has not been confirmed for any other platforms, including the Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Changes

There will be considerable changes to Silent Hill 2 in this new remake, many of them will be too small for most players to notice. However, some changes have been controversial for fans of this specific Silent Hill entry. Bloober Team has confirmed it will only make “very safe” changes to the game in this remake.

Here is a list of noticed changes so far:

  • The game’s intro journey into the town of Silent Hill has been extended with modern cinematic gameplay
  • Character designs have been changed with characters such as Maria having less sexualised outfits
  • The game now has a more standard third-person camera as opposed to the original’s fixed camera angles
  • General script changes means scenes will play out differently compared to the original

Silent Hill 2 Story Breakdown

The new Silent Hill 2 remake story is predominantly a one-to-one adaptation of the original PlayStation 2 game. This means that the major story beats will be the same, although some scenes will have script changes and some altered paths to get to the same overall place.

Silent Hill 2 remake focuses on protagonist James Sunderland as he explores the town of Silent Hill to find his deceased wife Mary after receiving a mysterious letter. James comes across multiple characters – including Eddie, Maria and Angela – and encounters the indestructible Pyramid Head, a giant violent creature that attacks and abuses the game’s Nurses.

Silent Hill 2 features multiple endings, although it’s not known if every ending will be adapted in the remake. Originally, Silent Hill 2 included six endings, including the infamous Shiba ending, which we will not spoil here.

Does Silent Hill 2 Remake Adapt Born From A Wish?

The inclusion of the side story Born From A Wish has not been confirmed for Silent Hill 2 Remake at the time of writing. However, the short side story has been mentioned in passing during promotion for the game’s Maria figurine.

Silent Hill 2 Remake could divide fans with so many changes

Born From A Wish was not included in the original PlayStation 2 version of Silent Hill 2, but it was included in every other version of the game. This side story was also included in the controversial Silent Hill 2 HD Collection which was based on unfinished source code of the PS2 game.

The Born From A Wish scenario is expected to be included in Silent Hill 2 Remake, but it could be released afterwards as DLC.

Silent Hill 2 Engine

The new Silent Hill 2 remake is developed with Unreal Engine 5. Bloober Team is using Unreal Engine’s Lumen and Nanite technology to provide high quality lighting and photorealistic assets on PlayStation 5 and PC.

It is possible that Silent Hill 2 Remake could arrive on Xbox sometime in the future. In the past, Bloober Team developed The Medium – a Silent Hill-inspired horror game – exclusively for Xbox Series and PC, but it quickly arrived on PlayStation 5.
