An inkling in the new Splatoon 3 Chill Season update trailer
November 29, 2022: News about the Big Run just in!

Woomy, squids! It's time for the Splatoon 3 Chill Season update! Get ready for this new season of content to close out 2022 and usher us into 2023 in style in Splatsville. This update is a free one, and as such, there is no new story or plot points - that's being saved for a major paid DLC down the line.

But not to fret, there is plenty going on in Splatoon 3 with this new update. There are new clothing and customisation options coming, as well as new ways to play, and even some weapons returning from Splatoon 2!

For those Splatoon 3 fans, we recommend our tier list of all the weapons currently in the game, and the best Abilities to use. Nintendo also has another big release very soon, so check out the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Pokédex to learn all about the upcoming Switch games!

When is the Splatoon 3 Chill Season update release date?

The new season of Splatoon 3 will start on December 1. We're not sure what time this will be yet, so we'll keep you posted!

What's coming in the Splatoon 3 update?

Splatoon 3's first big update is bringing plenty of content with it, and there's something for everyone. The new season will of course usher in a new catalogue, so we can climb through the levels and get fresh titles, clothing, emotes, and locker gear.

But that's not all - there are new modes, new stages, and a weapon drop coming, too! Check them all out here.

New stages

Two stages are coming to Splatoon 3 to flesh out the roster of available locations. They are named Brinewater Springs and Flounder Heights. Some seasoned Splatoon players will recognise Flounder Heights from the original Splatoon on the Wii U! The stage has had a makeover, and now seems more open, with less height.

Brinewater Springs features - as the name suggests - a hot spring area for jellies to soak in... thankfully, kept away from the Turf War section.

X Battles return

Bored of the everyday Anarchy Battles? Then X Battles are for you! They bring back Splatoon 2's X Rank Battles, where players will be placed in a rank based on their performance in five battles. They will then have three months to increase their X Power against other teams. Players managing to get into the top 500 will be recognised as winners at the end of the three months, with plenty of rewards coming their way.

More weapons

The weapon roster in Splatoon 3 is going to get a refresh, too. There are allegedly ten weapons returning to the game from previous entires. Some have had quite a design change, like a black Luna Blaster. There are also three new weapons, including what looks to be a new scope made from a pencil, as well.

The Tentatek Splattershot can be seen, along with another pair of dualies, and a roller weapon. We need to save up our Sheldon Licenses!

New and returning clothing

In the trailer, we see some new and funky clothing designs that haven't been featured in Splatoon 3 so far, as well as a handful of pieces that are returning to our wardrobes. These include the Ozzy Osborne-esque Circle Shades, Inkfall shirt, and Squink Wingtips brogues.

Big Run hits Splatsville!

Last but certainly not least, we've finally got Big Run. It's been rumoured to be coming for a while, and now we can experience Salmonids in more places than their spawning grounds.

This season the sneaky fish will invade Wahoo World, and players will have to adapt to a new area while fighting back waves of Salmonids. While our mission is still to collect Golden Eggs for Mr Grizz, other things have changed, but we'll need to wait to find out more nearer the time. The first Big Run will take place between 10-12 December!

That's it for our look at the Splatoon 3 Chill Season event! With only a few short weeks to wait, things are getting exciting. Until then, feel free to read up on how to get Oshawott, Cyndaquil, and the Kalos starters in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
