The Witcher Remake seems like it could be pretty far away, but its announcement is still big news. This is everything we know about it so far, when we think the game could release, and what platforms we could see it arriving on.
Being almost two decades old, and pretty choppy even to this day, the original Witcher game is ripe for a good remake. The story is still excellent and its atmosphere is charming, so the team can retain some of this charm. Being run by a team of CD Projekt Red veterans, we'll have to wait for even more information to come out.
For even more, check out the Modern Warfare 2 release date, which is fast approaching. We've also got a look at the best Warzone guns, as well as the best Warzone ARs.
When is the Witcher Remake release date?
The Witcher Remake seems very early into development, and we don't even have any official screenshots of the game just yet. The Witcher remake was originally operating under the code name Canis Majoris and was last on the Witcher roadmap announced just a few months ago. You can read about it in the team's post here, but they don't give very much information.
When talking about the project and development so far, Adam Badowski, Head of Studio at CD PROJEKT RED said:
Collaborating with Fool’s Theory on the project is just as exciting, as some of the people there have been previously involved in The Witcher games. They know the source material well, they know how much gamers have been looking forward to seeing the remake happen, and they know how to make incredible and ambitious games. And although it will take some time before we’re ready to share more about and from the game, I know it’ll be worth the wait.
What platforms will The Witcher Remake be on?
The Witcher remake is currently being developed from the ground up on Unreal Engine 5, showing a departure from the Red engine. Given how impressive it will likely be, it seems unlikely the game will launch on Nintendo Switch. This being said, The Witcher 3 is an impressive game and still managed to run on Nintendo Switch.
Even if it won't run on there, it is possible a new Nintendo console will be out by the time this launches. The Nintendo Switch arrived half a decade ago in 2017 so it seems likely a new console will arrive over the next two years or so.
Outside of the Nintendo ecosystem, you can expect to see the Witcher remake on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. It's unlikely that, by the time it releases, the PS4 and Xbox One will be powerful enough to run it.
The Witcher Remake pre order information
Pre orders aren't live yet and likely won't be for some time. This being said, we imagine a collectors' edition will come with the game, alongside some nice physical goodies. The day one version of The Witcher 3 came with tonnes of little extras in the game case. Hopefully, the Witcher Remake will follow this template.
If you just can't wait to give the game a go, it may be worth picking up Cyberpunk 2077. Here's a mod that lets you play as The Joker or Harley Quinn and a mod that restores the game's E3 visuals. The release of Edgerunners led to a resurgence of Cyberpunk 2077 that may even impact the future of the game. Needless to say, there have been quite a few interesting developments in Night City.
