The next champion arriving in Legends of Runeterra, League of Legends' card battler, is Aphelios.

The weapon specialist will be hitting the game in February alongside a new mastery system and more.

We're yet to see Aphelios' card, but we do know that he'll be able to switch between various weapons.

Riot notes that while all weapons are useful, some will be ideal for later rounds – making him a versatile character.

He'll be able to wield Infernum, Calibrum, Gravitum, Severum and Crescendum.

He'll also have the Nightfall keyword, making him more powerful after playing other cards, while early footage looks to suggest he'll be a 3/3 card.

The developer also confirmed that champions will be launching more often, as well as that the next region will be Shurima.

The "Empires of the Ascended" set will introduce a new expansion event pass, social lab, and a new Champion Mastery system similar to those found in League of Legends.

The expansion will add new mechanics tying into the gods of Shurima, predicting the future, as well as unearthing artefacts.
