As a juggernaut franchise that has grown rapidly, Final Fantasy has had an inevitable spawn of spinoffs, some of which deserve the high praise they've earned. Like the numbered games, these spinoffs have engaging narratives and challenging gameplay mechanics accompanied by fascinating characters.
While many protagonists in the Final Fantasy franchise carry the plot forward, a few side characters tend to take fascinating turns. They're so good at what they do in their respective video games; it's high time they were put in the spotlight!
5. Beatrix (Final Fantasy IX)
Fans of Final Fantasy IX are lucky to have the powerful swordswoman Beatrix join Zidane's party, even if their time together was brief.
She is renowned in the game as the fiercest defender of the Kingdom of Alexandria. Exploring how she achieved this mastery could be an excellent chapter in a potential remake or spin-off of one of the best entries to the franchise. It would also be safe to expect an appearance from her rival, the ever-valiant Adelbert Steiner!
4. The Summons (Almost every Final Fantasy)
Whether they're called summons, Aeons, Espers, Eikons, Eidolons, or Guardian Forces, one thing is certain about these creatures: they are the coolest characters in the franchise! Their designs are mysterious and intriguing, while their power has to be seen to be believed!
Naturally, a video game exploring how these summons use their power outside the confines of summoning rituals sounds like a visual spectacle and, more importantly, a ton of fun!
3. Balthier (Final Fantasy XII)
If a sky pirate who owns an airship with a nice gun isn't the definition of cool, we don't know what is. Fortunately, Balthier is precisely that and more.
Besides his roguish charm, Balthier possesses impressive foresight, a perfect complement to his natural leadership. To join Balthier in his adventures, along with his first mate Fran, sounds like a compelling open-world adventure game!
2. Auron (Final Fantasy X)
From the reserved demeanour and the wisdom beyond years on his face, anyone could tell that Auron had a compelling story to tell. Beyond the initial flashbacks in the original games, there would be an incentive to explore his relationship with Yuna's father.
At the same time, his precise sword-fighting style could be interesting to incorporate within its potential gameplay.
1. Tifa Lockhart (Final Fantasy VII)
The proud and powerful Tifa Lockhart seems poised to become a breakout star from her original game. Her infectious personality and cool moves could easily be adapted to an exciting action game.
The game could also explore AVALANCHE's operations, meaning that leader Barrett Wallace can share the spotlight with her.
With the rich backstories surrounding the series, it would be a good idea to create Final Fantasy spinoffs for these side characters and more.
These spin-offs would go down well with fans and expand the stories behind the wonderful personalities that have kept the franchise popular over the years.
