Despite the gameplay videos we’ve seen thus far, the Director of Marvel’s Midnight Suns claims that the game is “the opposite of XCOM.” Most assumed that some changes would be made to make the formula fresh, like the card mechanic that received a mixed reaction from fans, but it seems that Marvel’s Midnight Suns has a bit more up its sleeve.
In an interview with EDGE Magazine, Director Jake Solomon claims that the strategies are going to be a lot different from XCOM since players will be able to plan out their actions in advance. Apparently, enemies in Marvel’s Midnight Suns will have symbols that pop up which reveal who they will be attacking, letting players observe the environment and see how they can counter these attacks.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns Director Says it's the “Opposite of XCOM”
Here’s the full quote from Solomon:
“Midnight Suns is another step in the direction of telling the player as much as we can. Our enemies have a symbol on their flag that says 'I am going to attack this hero next turn'. And your abilities say exactly what they're going to do. We have one percentage [probability] element in the game, which is when you knock somebody into a hole or off a building. Everything else in Midnight Suns is very explicit. You can plan out actions in advance."
Marvel’s Midnight Suns will be coming out in March 2022. The game will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
