Marvel Rivals has been in a closed beta for months, but it just launched this weekend, and even more players are getting their hands on NetEase’s most anticipated game.
Though some characters do play great, there are those heroes that some have been calling overpowered and downright broken. Some fans expect it will be a while before they get the first patch fix for the game, but here are some of the most common characters people have complained about since launch.
Jeff the Land Shark
No doubt, one of the cutest characters in the game, Jeff the Land Shark, is a character from the Gwenpool comics who found his way into Marvel Rivals. Jeff is a strategist/healer but has become a recurring meme online, with some calling him the ‘Hitler’ of the game.
One of the most common complaints about Jeff is his ultimate, which allows him to soak up everyone in a whirlpool and spit them out in his desired location. One very common tactic that Jeff players use is to gather a bunch of the enemy team and spit them outside the map.
There has been some evidence that Jeff’s ultimate is broken in that it still catches people who have escaped its radius. Maybe there’s a quick fix somewhere down the line.
Scarlet Witch/Squirrel Girl/Hela/etc.
One general complaint that’s been going around in the game is that specific characters are very OP, and the most common characters that get called out on this are Scarlet Witch, Hela, and Squirrel Girl.
No specifics have been mentioned about either character's kit, but some think their damage output is a tad high, and they expect them to be nerfed soon enough.
On the other hand, there are even s
Iron Fist
Probably the most-complained character since launch. Lin Lie’s Iron Fist is an incredibly mobile melee specialist, and his punches are powerful enough to take out any player in seconds. Even flyers like Iron Man aren’t safe from his triple-jump ability.
Some say that players just need to understand that they have to gang up on Iron Fist the moment he’s spotted, but there are also clips of Iron Fist taking on a full-health Hulk and still coming out on top.
Trust the Process
Admittedly, this is just the first weekend of the game, and everyone is already expecting the incoming nerfs once other players find ways to abuse the character roster. At this point, a meme goes around saying, “Every character is unbalanced and Hitlerian except for the one I am playing.”
Some even say NetEase deliberately made the characters OP because ‘if everyone is OP, then nobody is.’ Then again, there are barely any complaints about other characters like Storm, Groot, Mantis, or Thor.
It’s unclear when NetEase plans to do its rebalancing, but despite complaints, most reactions to Rivals have been overwhelmingly positive.
Marvel Rivals is now available to play for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.
