Marvel Rivals has just revealed the rest of their 33-hero roster, and one reveal is that of Iron Fist, but not the Danny Rand version—instead, Rivals’ version of the character is a newer alter ego in the form of Lin Lie.
Lin Lie was a sword master before becoming the new Iron Fist, but it looks like most of his attacks in this game will be kung-fu-based.
Immortal Iron Fist Ability Breakdown
Based on the character reveal for Iron Fist, he’s mostly just coming into the game with his martial arts mastery, but he can heal himself and attack multiple enemies at once.
“Once just another face in a sea of millions, Lin Lie was gifted an ancient and divine weapon, the Sword of Fu Xi, wielding power to defeat demons and mystical forces. Pushed to his limits and at the edge of death, Lin Lie was saved by the ancient dragon Shou-Lao the Undying. With his sword now shattered, he was blessed by Shou-Lao's powerful Chi, transforming him into the Immortal Iron Fist.
“As Iron Fist embraced his new role as the protector of K'un-Lun, he made it his duty to protect the mystical realms in his Collapsing Timeline. Focusing his Chi, he’s able to amplify his iron fist to reach unimaginable strength, giving him the power to take on anyone who gets in his way”
As you can see in the character reveal video, most of Iron Fist’s attacks are supposed to be close quarters, but the great thing is he does a good deal of damage, and everyone will want to get away from him when he gets closer.
Marvel Rivals Guides breaks down the abilities from what can be seen in the character reveal:
Primary – plain old kicks and punches – It’s no mystery that Marvel’s martial arts master should be deadly during close combat. Giving him an actual weapon to wield may be defeating the point of Iron Fist’s character.
Secondary – Defensive Position – Blocks all incoming damage and also grants bonus health. A tiny bell sound denotes successful parries.
Shift – Sweeping Kick – Iron Fist does a sweeping kick that knocks back enemies, putting some relevant distance between them and Iron Fist.
E – Meditative State – With Iron First being a close-combat fighter, it would be no surprise that he should expect much damage. It's good for his kit, though, because he can also heal for days.
Ultimate – Dragon State – Iron Fist activates a ‘Dragon State’ where he hits harder and faster. Additionally, his range is increased, and he starts automatically targeting all nearby enemies, allowing Lin to attack more people than once like he usually does.
Passive Abilities
- Iron Fist can run across the wall for more mobility.
- Iron Fist gains bonus health whenever he knocks out an enemy.
- He can jump four levels, a.k.a. twice the double jump.
The Immortal Weapon
Immediately, some would think that Iron Fist is Rivals’ version of Overwatch’s Doomfist, but it can be argued that he has abilities closer to that of Lucio and Genji. Besides the enhanced mobility like jumping and running across walls, he is also a melee specialist; he can even deflect incoming damage—but sadly, it doesn’t bounce straight back at the enemy.
His ability to self-heal is also very reminiscent of Soldier: 76, and even his ultimate seems to be a melee version of Soldier’s tactical visor, targeting everyone within range and hitting them automatically.
Fans have been clamoring for Danny Rand's version of the character to come as a skin eventually, but as it stands, Lin was a great choice in diversifying the roster. Who knows, maybe there’s room for Danny Rand’s classic Iron Fist in the next few months.
Iron Fist launches alongside the main roster for Marvel Rivals on Dec. 6 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.
