NetEase’s Marvel Rivals hasn’t even launched yet, but there is already a lot of hype for the upcoming Marvel Overwatch clone.
Like any big game property, Rivals is also planning some collaborations down the line, and some games have already been announced to be part of the “Chronoverses Collaboration.” So, what games can we expect to celebrate the arrival of Marvel Rivals?
Marvel Rivals Announces Incoming Collabs
According to the official Marvel Games page, Marvel Rivals, Fortnite, and other Marvel-based IPs, including Marvel SNAP, Puzzle Quest, and Marvel Future Fight, will collaborate.
No specific details about the crossover have been released so far, but some suspect that it will mainly consist of the original designs of characters from Marvel Rivals crossing over to the other Marvel-based IP.
As for the Fortnite crossover, some fans think the game could be bringing back their Galactus event, but instead of the usual Devourer of Worlds showing up, it’s going to be his daughter Galacta—who looks to be the main mascot of Marvel Rivals.
For context, the event had Galactus looming over the background slowly as players would find a way to fend him off. The visual was said to be so definitive of the character that it was used to influence Galactus' appearance in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie.
Of course, it’s also possible that Fortnite could also be offering new characters or skins based on the ones from Marvel Rivals, but it does seem like a Galacta event is something that the devs could pull off with minimal work—all they need to do is just change the Galactus model with Galacta.
Live Service Marvel Game
With Marvel Rivals being a live service game, fans can expect these crossovers to happen now and then. Though the game doesn’t take place in the MCU, multiple cosmetics have already been revealed for MCU-based skins, like costumes for the Guardians of the Galaxy based on GOTG Vol. 3 and Thor’s costume from Love and Thunder.
Of course, the game also comes with some cosmetics based on the comics, so there should be a lot of variety when it comes to character appearances in Rivals. With Marvel planning to release two movies and three series a year in the future, it wouldn’t be surprising if Rivals also dropped some cosmetics around the time of promotion to help with the marketing push.
Though Rivals has a reputation for being an Overwatch clone, many fans have been celebrating the game's open beta. General players can’t wait to finally get their hands on what some consider the obvious direction to take Marvel games.
We don’t know how successful the game will be, but as of now, critics are singing nothing but praises for this Marvel title.
Marvel Rivals is set to launch Dec. 6 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
