It looks like Mass Effect's next game is running on Unreal Engine 5. Thanks to a recent job posting, we know that BioWare's likely shifting away from EA's Frostbite engine as seen with Andromeda, having previously used Unreal Engine 3 for the original trilogy.
Gaming Bolt reports the job posting comes from BioWare producer Brenon Holmes, who posted they're hiring programmers "with Unreal Engine 4/5" experience to work on the next Mass Effect game. Within this, Holmes states that "experience with UnrealEngine4+ is an asset."
Mass Effect’s Next Entry Is Likely Running on Unreal Engine 5
Unreal Engine 5's slowly seeing wider adoption. After Fortnite recently moved development onto it, The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience launched earlier this month as a movie tie-in experience on PS5/Xbox Series X/S for the upcoming film The Matrix Resurrections. This tech demo was described as "a glimpse into the future of interactive storytelling and entertainment" using Unreal Engine 5.
