After the success of films like Sonic the Hedgehog and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Mojang Studios is finally pushing forward with their Minecraft film. For fans of the game, you'll even receive something special.
A Minecraft Movie is set to release in theaters by the end of the week, and the game has revealed upcoming DLC that’s based on the movie and should get everyone excited for new characters and special setpieces.

As per the official trailer, the DLC will have playable characters based off the ones in the film including Garett (Jason Momoa), Steve (Jack Black), Henry (Sebastian Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers), and Dawn (Danielle Brooks). Three Game Modes
The DLC comes with three major game modes, all of which are inspired by scenes from the film. Namely they’re:
- -First Night Survival – Though surviving the first night is already a classic Minecraft challenge, this updated version of the game mode will have players go up against waves of all kinds of creepers and enemies. The essential goal is to survive for as long as possible which will help rack up points so you can achieve a high score.
- -Mansion Stealth – Not as action-packed as FNS, Mansion Stealth will have players sneaking around a mansion avoiding Endermen, evokers, and vindicators. The goal of the game mode is to collect Earth Crystals that are hidden in chests all over the mansion.
- -Elytra Race – Trailers for the movie had already showcased an item called Elytra Wings, andit looks like the film is going to have a chase in a canyon where the main characters will be flying away from enemies on their wings.
Like any other racing game, players will have to avoid obstacles and collect power-ups to shorten their time and beat other players on the leaderboard.
Great Early Reviews
Though the movie isn’t out yet, A Minecraft Movie has been getting a lot of great early reactions, with some pointing out that it’s a kids’ adventure that a lot of fans of the game will love for all the easter eggs.
It’s actually kind of odd that the movie is getting so much great reception this early, and some are joking that it’s getting review-bombed, but in the best possible way.
Until the movie releases at the end of the week, all fans can really do is speculate; but with the wave of video game adaptations getting some positive buzz—except for Borderlands—maybe the filmmakers knew exactly who they were making the movie for.
A Minecraft Movie is set to hit theaters on April 4. Minecraft is now playable for PC, mobile, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 4|5.
