Release Date and Platforms

Borderlands 3 will release on all platforms (Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and Google Stadia) on September 13th, 2019. It will be exclusive to the Epic Games store on PC until April 2020.

Campaign/Multiplayer and Microtransactions

The campaign is said to last at least 35 hours, but you can fight with up to three other friends thanks to four-player co-op. The co-op will now feature optional level syncing, if you wish to play with friends who are a higher level than you. If you do not have a stable internet connection do not fear as the game will be playable offline and you will be able to preload the game on PC and console before it comes out.

The game will feature cosmetic microtransactions only, and there is DLC that will release in the future. The first paid DLC has not been detailed, but it will include a new campaign add on and is included in the game's season pass.

Loot

Borderlands has always been a loot driven looter shooter, and Borderlands 3 will not disappoint. The Loot has seen some positive changes from prior Borderlands games in a variety of ways. First off, there will be no more competing for loot in co-op as every player will get their own loot drop, but much like level syncing this can be toggled.

Second, the game will feature a "Guardian" leveling system so that the endgame feels meaty and rewarding (unlike Destiny 2) and comes with its own set of loot and rewards. This Borderlands will feature "procedurally generated guns" meaning that guns will come out bits different because they are all unique. This system can become very mundane because even though the guns are "unique" if everything is unique nothing feels truly special. No Man's Sky ran into this issue when they procedurally generated planets that often became mundane.

Luckily, not all the guns will be artificially created as there will be guns in chests, dropped by bosses, and acquired through a variety of means that will satisfy your craziest loot driven desires.

Major Characters / Locations / Gamemodes

Borderlands has always been a game of big personalities and Borderlands 3 is no exception. The Vault Hunters in Borderlands 3 are:

Moze the Gunner who rides a mechanical bearAmara the Siren who can summon a fist FL4K the Beastmaster who is a robot that summons beasts to fight for himZane the Operative who has several gadgets

In addition to the main vault hunters, some original characters from prior games such as Lilith, Maya, Brick, Mordecai, Regular Tina, Marcus, Ellie, Sir Hammerlock, and is there a Borderlands game without Claptrap? Speaking of the wisecracking robot, Claptrap has a brand new voice actor (Jim Foronda) and looks to be as much fun as every claptrap before him.

The main baddies of Borderlands 3 are the Children of the Vault headed by The Calypso Twins. Randy Pitchford of Gearbox said that the twins are, "like the douchiest kind of live streamers of the future you can possibly imagine." The twins are named Troy and Tyreen and will be leading the armies of things you will have to shoot. They learn of new Vaults beyond Pandora (the planet that has housed Borderlands so far) and seek to take them over with their new cult.

Borderlands 3 will feature a variety of places to shoot varkids as you will leave the atmosphere of Pandora on the Sanctuary III. The Sanctuary 3 is a spaceship that will serve as a hub for your vault hunting operations. Aboard the ship, you will be able to fly to new locations of potential vaults, manage your inventory, and select side missions. This will be the first Borderlands 3 game to feature Twitch integration! With Twitch, viewers can help a streamer manage their inventory and obtain loot via SHiFT codes.
