Mortal Kombat 1 already has a great roster of guest characters, including Peacemaker, Omni-Man, and Homelander. With the current Khaos Reigns event, many new faces are expected to make the character roster.
One upcoming character is Ghostface from the Scream franchise, and NetherRealm just revealed how his gameplay works.
Gameplay for Ghostface Revealed
Though there is usually one Ghostface stalking people at a time, this Ghostface functions as several characters.
“Just a guy with a knife? Famous last words.”
With the meta nature of the Scream franchise, even Ghostface himself is pretty meta within the game. His fatality also has him breaking several walls with Johnny Cage complaining about how he’s just ‘a guy with a knife.’
When it comes to Ghostface’s fighting style, it does look like the game gives him the same kind of characteristics as Noob Saibot, in that he has a second body that can assist him during the battle that takes his place and helps grab opponents. You can probably treat the other Ghostface as a second kameo character.
Ghostface’s main weapon is his knife; he can throw it or just madly stab at his opponent. Like several other guest characters in the MK games, many of Ghostface’s moves are drawn from the films—from him coming out from behind to stab a person multiple times to him crawling on the floor to get to an opponent. Of course, it isn’t Ghostface if he doesn’t do the iconic knife-wipe.
His Animality has also been revealed, and Ghostface turns into a vulture that rips the other player apart.
Who is Ghostface from the Movies?
The Scream franchise is a commentary on the slasher genre dominated by movies like Friday the 13th and Halloween. Ghostface is the killer in the films, but the twist is that someone else always takes up his mantle to commit all kinds of murders. He may die in one film, but fans can expect someone else to take on the mask in the next movie. The hook is that audiences will have to figure out who Ghostface is in each new movie.
As Johnny Cage says, he is just a guy with a knife, but he’s such a horror icon that it would be hard for the Mortal Kombat franchise not to ignore him after all the guest characters that have appeared in the game.
In addition to Ghostface, the event promises to include other guest characters, including the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgement Day and another Arnold Schwarzenegger character, Conan the Barbarian.
Here’s the official description for the DLC:
“Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns expands Liu Kang’s New Era with a new story campaign and an all-new cinematic experience. Discover how Liu Kang rallies his champions and puts faith in his enemies as he battles the ruthless Titan Havik, who threatens to plunge the realms into khaos. If they fail, the New Era will be reduced to anarchy.”
Ghostface comes to Mortal Kombat 1 on Nov. 26. The game is now playable on Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
