Speaking via a press release, president of Visual Concepts Greg Thomas explained: "Never before have we been able to deliver this level of visual fidelity and realism in a video game".
"NBA 2K21 is the standout title that best delivers the promise of next-gen: truly revolutionary graphics, lighting-fast load times and incredible new features and gameplay only possible on next-generation hardware."
2K is promising a huge leap in graphical advancements with next-gen lighting, textures and physics.
Animations have also been rebuilt, so players move and interact more realistically - no more gliding through defenders.
Over 150 AI characters within the arena will interact with each other, meaning the courtside is just as immersive as the court.
The team will be releasing a new Courtside Report blog post tomorrow to cover gameplay changes.
Following that, the developers will also be rolling out information about the game's new "Impact Engine", AI, and changes to the MyPLAYER Builder.
2K is also promising "the biggest expansion of NBA 2K’s online basketball community feature yet: the experience formerly known as the Neighborhood", so expect major changes there.
