Breakdown

  • Remedy Entertainment of Alan Wake 2 fame have canceled a multiplayer shooter in development
  • The devs claim this is to focus on existing IP further along in development
  • Remedy are currently working on Alan Wake 2 DLC, Control 2, and Max Payne remakes

Remedy Entertainment of Alan Wake 2 and Control fame have announced that they have canceled a co-op multiplayer game going by Codename Kestrel. The company claims that this is so they can focus on their more established IP from here on out, which comprise mostly single-player games.

On the company’s investor site, it was confirmed that Remedy and Tencent would cancel this premium multiplayer game to focus on other titles. Apparently, a small team was working on Codename Kestrel, but the company canceled it since their other projects are in more advanced stages of development.

“Codename Kestrel showed early promise, but the project was still in its early concept stage. Our other projects have advanced well and are moving to the next stages of development, and increasing focus on them provides us with benefits,” reads the statement. “We can reallocate talented Kestrel developers to these other game projects, and many of our support functions get additional focus on their operations.”

At the time of writing, fans are still waiting for the two major Alan Wake 2 DLC packs to arrive so they can continue the game’s narrative. Fans did have a unique New Game Plus to play through, but new content is much more tantalizing then going through the same story again.

Beyond DLC for the Alan Wake sequel, Remedy is also working on remakes for the first two Max Payne games. The two games will be combined into one package and is being done with an agreement with Rockstar Games, who will distribute and publish the shooter.

Control 2 is also in the works, as fans are also waiting on more news for that game. Alan Wake 2 referenced Control quite a bit in the game, hence the excitement to see a sequel that could continue that game’s story.

No release date for the Alan Wake 2 DLC has been announced, but it is coming out in 2024. Fans can pick up the game now on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, albeit, through digital-only releases.
