Batman: Arkham Trilogy on Nintendo Switch is an unplayable disaster

Now available on Nintendo Switch, Rockstar’s Batman: Arkham Trilogy is one of the best gaming trilogy ever made. However, the new Nintendo Switch version is an unmitigated disaster, especially when playing the demanding finale, Arkham Knight.

Fans who purchased the new Batman: Arkham Trilogy release on Nintendo Switch have quickly realised their mistake. While many were shocked to see the arrival of the trilogy on Nintendo’s scrappy handheld, previously released footage of the ports teased a great conversion of the trilogy.

However, as many fans have now found out, the new Nintendo Switch ports are horrid. While the first two games — Arkham Asylum and Arkham City — are mostly fine, Arkham Knight should not have been released on the platform. If Nintendo owners are getting the trilogy to experience the finale for the first time, we’d recommend staying away.

At the time of writing, Batman: Arkham Knight on Nintendo Switch suffers from horrendous performance, especially when using the game’s highly controversial Batmobile. Barreling through the gorgeous grimy city of Gotham sees the game drop below 20fps. Even worse, the frame rate fluctuates so much that it can appear incredibly sickening.

These frame drops happen any time you use the Batmobile, even in early chases and firefights. With some of the latter parts of the game featuring huge battles in the vehicle and even long races, we can’t imagine it would be a fun time for fans.

Arkham Knight isn’t the only game to suffer from issues. Asylum, the first and most sparse game, suffers from large frame rate drops in combat. Weirdly, these drops don’t appear to occur in Batman: Arkham City, although we fully expect some issues to pop up considering the other two games in the trilogy.

At the time of writing, it’s worth staying away from Batman: Arkham Trulogy on Nintendo Switch. Not only is this a shame because it offers a portable Arkham experience, and a nifty new The Batman batsuit, but also because Warner Bros’ recent release of Hogwarts Legacy on Switch was so damn good. While not perfect, at least the Harry Potter game took the time to compromise and create a tailored experience for the handheld.
