It looks like the Borderlands movie isn’t the only thing fans of the series have to look forward to, as Gearbox has essentially teased Borderlands 4. While the sequel hasn’t been confirmed by anyone yet, it’s clear that Gearbox has something planned and it might be their “greatest” game ever.
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford spoke with IGN about the upcoming movie, before eventually talking about the various games in the series. Pitchford was then asked about his favorite game in the series and he essentially said it’s Borderlands 4, without dropping any names.
"Look, we haven't even announced anything of it," Pitchford tells IGN. "Clearly, we're working on something. And I know what we're working on, and holy shit... It's the greatest thing we've ever done. And I can't wait, but it's not time yet. It's not time yet. There will be a time."
Based on his answer, it’s clear that Pitchford is about as subtle as a sledgehammer when it comes to the existence of this franchise’s fourth game. Despite the lack of an official announcement, it seems that an announcement for Borderlands 4 is a matter of when rather than if.
That’s not to say fans have been deprived of Borderlands content, as there are a lot of games for players to check out. Borderlands, Borderlands 2, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel are all readily available as part of the series’ Legendary Collection. We also recently got a port of the acclaimed Borderlands 3 on Nintendo Switch, which seems to have been received positively by fans.
It isn’t even just official entries, as fans recently had the chance to enjoy Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, a spin-off that uses similar gameplay but is set in a DnD-style world. Although the gameplay doesn’t deviate from the series, fans still enjoyed the looter shooter, as the setting was enough to keep things fresh.
