Bungie has apologized to fans having issues connecting to Destiny 2: The Final Shape, ensuring players that a number of these problems have since been fixed. It’s unfortunate that this expansion’s launch came with a major issue like this, but that is the risk developers take with online-only live-service titles.
The devs at Bungie apologized to those who couldn’t get into their servers, seemingly confirming that this problem is on them. While disappointing, the developers have said that they’ve already fixed a number of issues, including failed sign-ins. Hopefully, this means that more players will get to enjoy the shooter.
“Hey everyone, if connection issues have blocked you from playing or enjoying The Final Shape today, we want to apologize,” Bungie told fans on Twitter. “We’re hard at work trying to resolve each of these issues as quickly as possible, and many of the connection issues from this morning have already been fixed.”
What’s really disappointing about this is the fact that Destiny 2: The Final Shape was close to hitting the game’s peak concurrent players on Steam. VGC reports that the launch of this new expansion led to 314,624 concurrent players on Valve’s platform. It’s easy to imagine that number going a bit higher if these connection issues didn’t happen.
Connection issues are always going to disappoint fans, but fans should be able to get into the game now and have a good time with the new content. The Final Shape promises hours of new content for this campaign, which takes place inside The Traveler. Fans of the series have always wanted to have a full campaign in this area and they finally have it.
Development for Destiny 2: The Final Shape wasn’t easy, with numerous delays annoying fans who wanted to play through new areas. At the least, fans can now go through The Final Shape and see what destiny awaits them in this new expansion.
Those curious can pick up Destiny 2 now, as the shooter is free and comes with quite a few expansions. For those who want more, they will have to pay extra for other expansions after going through the free content.
