Doom: The Dark Ages has fans so excited that they decided to mod this new game’s weapon into the original 1993 Doom. Modding the original shooter has become a hobby for many, so this isn’t particularly surprising news, but it’s still cool seeing the original game get these updates.
Twitter user Creeper of Steam has revealed that they’re working on a Shield Saw for the 1993 shooter after seeing the trailer for Dark Ages. While it’s not yet available, the fact that this mod is already being worked on and looking cool shows just how incredible the modding community can be.
Fans shouldn’t have to wait too long for this mod, since Doom mods are fairly frequent and will often get replaced by something else newer. At the least, it will come out before Doom: The Dark Ages, which will be hitting current-gen systems sometime in 2025. The new shooter does look incredible and that Shield Saw is only one of the reasons why.
A new Doom game had been leaked for sometime now, though actual gameplay wasn’t shown until the Xbox Games Showcase. Even if it wasn’t a huge surprise, fans were still happy to see this new game in action, since it looks like more of what people want from this franchise.
While modern Doom games are great, the classic entries are still going strong thanks to the insane modding scene that has kept this series alive. In addition to the aforementioned Shield Saw mod that looks incredible, fans have also been making the original game playable on a ton of systems. Modders have made the original Doom playable on a lawnmower, tech earrings, and even Atlus’ Persona 5 Royal.
Doom: The Dark Ages is coming to PS5, Xbox Series, and PC sometime in 2025. In the meantime, fans can play Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal on all of those systems, plus the Nintendo Switch.
