It's been 10 long years since Dragon Age Inquisition came out, and every year since, Dragon Age fans have been chomping at the bit to know when, just when, they would be able to see the sequel. That sequel is Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Previously titled Dragon Age 4 and Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is the newest spin on a title for BioWare's upcoming RPG. And, like its previous name, it does give us a bit of a hint of what to expect. After all, The Veil is the Elven translation of The Fade, a metaphysical barrier that exists between the physical realm of Dragon Age's setting, Thedas, and the spiritual realm.

However, the most exciting part of this announcement—which can be read in full on BioWare's blog post—is that it promises a gameplay reveal for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

"Summer is nearly upon us, and as promised, we’re ready to provide an update on our big reveal," the BioWare blog writes. We’d like to invite the world to join us on Tuesday, June 11, for the official first look at gameplay for the next Dragon Age!"

The blog also confirmed something else: there will be several characters that'll make up the new protagonist's companions in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

"Each of the seven unique characters that make up your companions will have deep and compelling storylines where the decisions you make will impact your relationships with them – as well as their lives. You’ll unite this team of unforgettable heroes as you take on a terrifying new threat unleashed on the world." The blog reads.

The post goes on further to reveal that your companions and their fight against The Dread Wolf (aka Dragon Age Inquisition spoilers, but uh, we're talking about Solas) is, ultimately, what caused BioWare to change the name altogether. And indeed, if these companions and characters are protecting The Veil/The Fade from The Dread Wolf from ripping it asunder, then the name is definitely more fitting than its predecessor.

For now, fans of Dragon Age will not have to wait long to find out what comes next. More will be revealed on June 11, 2024. In the meantime, check out our Dragon Age: The Veilguard hub to keep up to date with all new information coming out.
