Obsidian Entertainment, the studio behind Fallout New Vegas, proposed numerous Elder Scrolls spin-offs that were sadly turned down. Following the release of Skyrim, Obsidian wanted to help fill the long gap between releases.
With The Elder Scrolls 6 still years away after the release of Fallout 4 and Starfield, Obsidian pitched spin-off games to help keep the franchise going. Unfortunately, Bethesda Game Studios didn’t bite on any of the pitches.
Fallout: New Vegas head writer Chris Avellone revealed on Twitter that numerous Elder Scrolsl games were pitched by the studio when he worked there. These titles were expected to “intended to serve the same function" as New Vegas did between Fallout 3 and 4.”
"I thought it couldn't hurt to try and push a similar system to what Treyarch/Activision had going with Call of Duty at the time (but hopefully less rushed)," Avellone explained. "Bethesda could do a core release, then we'd release a TES title (in [the] same world or a divergent timeline/era) before the next big [Bethesda] push.
Of course, the need for Elder Scrolls spin-offs has been lessened by the massive popularity of The Elder Scrolls Online. With the MMO spin-off taking players to believed regions such as Morrowind, Skyrim, Cyrodil and more, fans of the franchise have received a large amount of content in the fantasy franchise.
However, while ESO is still popular, many fans of the franchise have craved a new single-player entry in the franchise. Following the disappointment of Starfield, fans have expressed a desire to return to the region of Tamriel in another solo or even just co-op adventure.
The Elder Scrolls 6 is in early development at Bethesda Game Studios, although major Starfield updates are also in the works. Furthermore, Starfield expansions are also in development with the first DLC dubbed Shattered Space.
Starfield is available to play right now on Xbox Series and PC. The game is also available on Xbox Game Pass and Cloud Gaming via Xbox One, PC, Mobile and Meta Quest headsets.
