If you thought that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was too scary, you’re not alone. In an upcoming patch, the massive RPG will see huge changes to its lighting system to remove some incorrect “scary” lighting on characters’ faces.
Alongside fixing graphical issues in the awful performance mode, this new patch aims to remove weird inconsistencies with the lighting system. All in all, the game will be an even better experience than it already is.
In an interview with One More Game, Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi explained that the incorrect lighting is of the utmost importance to the development team.
“We have heard from players that in certain situations, the facial lighting makes some character shadows look very scary. So that's one part of the update that we are working on," they said.
Square Enix has been tinkering with the visuals of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth since before its release. For example, the pre-release demo of the game was updated to feature better visuals following a wave of complaints from fans about its image quality.
Furthermore, the development team has even gone as far as to update the last entry, Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Alongside changing Aerith’s final line for the worse, the team also covered up Tifa Lockhart’s cleavage in a scene where it really shouldn’t have been. Nevertheless, some people were upset anyway, even though there’s plenty of Tifa fan service breaking the internet.
