  • A new update for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth continues to improve graphics
  • You can now tweak the game’s look for yourself
  • Other improvements have also been made

Square Enix has released yet another graphics update for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, further improving the game’s visuals on PS5. Predominantly targeting the game’s performance mode, players should now be able to get more stable visuals at 60fps.

In the patch notes for the latest Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth update, Square Enix confirms that the update vaguely “improves the graphics quality” overall. However, the new performance mode options give players more control over the game’s looks.

In the settings menu, players will now find performance mode options that allow you to choose between “Sharp” and “Soft” options for your visuals. This essentially will allow you to dial in the game’s visual reconstruction feature, letting you have either a more anti-aliased, blurry look or a more pixelated appearance. It’s all a matter of taste.

While we loved the RPG in our Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth review, fans have been critical of the game’s visuals since the release of its demo. In fact, Square Enix even updated the video game demo to have better visuals.

With even the game’s director has admitted that the performance mode sucks, future Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth updates will likely continue to focus on improving visuals wherever possible. However, there’s likely a limit to how much the visuals can be improved, at least with this entry.

Of course, improved visuals aren’t the only addition in the latest FF7 Rebirth update. Alongside the new visual tweaks, Squenix has added mini game difficulty customisation, improved photo mode options and a whole host of bug fixes.

While FF7 Rebirth has only just released, Square Enix already has plans for the remake trilogy’s finale. Not planned to release until 2028 at the earliest, this final entry will likely move to Unreal Engine 5 to deliver an even bigger blockbuster adventure.
