Mistwalker’s Fantasian was seen by many as a proper successor to Final Fantasy and it might finally be coming to consoles after being stuck on Apple Arcade. Written and produced by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, fans have waited a long time for this game to come out on more systems and that might finally be happening.
Gaming insider Nate the Hate (via VGC) has said that Square Enix will be publishing Mistwalker’s beautiful JRPG for PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch. Previous reports have also said that a Steam version might be in the works, so that could be coming after.
Nate the Hate has also said that Fantasian is expected to be revealed during today’s Nintendo Direct, though we won’t know until the show itself. We’ve seen former Apple Arcade games like TMNT: Splintered Fate appear in Nintendo Directs before, so this wouldn’t be out of place. Plus, this is a game many fans have wanted outside of mobile, so the announcement could lead to a ton of praise.
Luckily, fans won’t have to wait long until the Nintendo Direct, since the showcase is going to premiere soon. The fact that Square Enix is publishing this Final Fantasy-like RPG is a nice touch, since the company already releases similar titles like Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler.
Considering how Square Enix wants to bring more of their games to other systems, seeing them scoop up Fantasian for a multi-platform release makes sense. JRPG fans have wanted this game to come out on other systems for a long time and Square publishing this will be a big deal. It might even get fans to stop complaining about the lack of turn-based games for the main Final Fantasy series.
Aside from Fantasian, fans are also hoping to see news on the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D remake during today’s Nintendo Direct. There are rumors that this will actually remake the whole trilogy, which would be wonderful news.
Fantasian is currently available for Apple Arcade, but this leak gives us hope that it’s coming to other systems as well.
