Final Fantasy VII Rebirth may have received rave reviews, but this new installment continues to dip in sales, failing to hit the Top 20 sales charts. This won’t cancel the third entry in Square Enix’s trilogy, but it seems that console exclusivity really hurt this game’s sales.
Mat Piscatella posted a lengthy thread for video game sales, revealing that Rebirth didn’t even make the Top 20 for April’s premium game sales. Just to add some salt to that wound, this RPG didn’t gain a spot while titles like Sea of Thieves, Rise of the Ronin, and Princess Peach: Showtime did.
Despite Final Fantasy VII Rebirth receiving a ton of hype from Square Enix and Sony, it seems that the game just failed to ignite interest from most fans. Whether it’s most people not having a PlayStation 5, the release of more interesting titles, or a general dip in AAA gaming, things do not look good for Rebirth.
Sales aren’t everything as the sequel did get plenty of love from fans and critics alike, so it’s clear that this is a quality title. However, with Remake finding plenty of life on PC, one has to wonder if the same will happen for Rebirth when it eventually comes to gaming computers.
Although the company has yet to release an official statement regarding the sales of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, it’s clear that they blame console exclusivity. The company recently said that all of their major games would have multi-platform releases from now on, seemingly after Rebirth and FF 16 didn’t light sales charts on fire.
With exclusivity fans seemingly out the window, it’s easy to see why Square immediately announced that the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D remake is coming to multiple platforms. Square is also finally bringing the Kingdom Hearts games to Steam, after years of being stuck in the Epic Games Store.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available now on the PS5, with a PC port of the game likely getting announced soon.
