A recent interview claimed that the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy would be console exclusive to PlayStation, allowing for PC ports but not much else. However, a correction has since been put out, claiming that the Square Enix trilogy isn’t console exclusive to Sony’s system just yet.

Christian Svensson, the vice president of third-party content for Sony, previously told The Washington Post (via VGC) that the trilogy was console exclusive to PlayStation. Svensson said that the Final Fantasy franchise has always felt like a PlayStation pillar and keeping the Remake trilogy exclusive to Sony makes sense.

Not long after that interview, a correction was made by the author on Twitter, claiming that the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy isn’t console exclusive to PlayStation yet. It’s an interesting statement to make, especially with rumours that the first game, Final Fantasy VII Remake, will be a Switch 2 launch game.

“I am clarifying the second point: it was a mistake on my part to write the sentence like that. The entire FFVII trilogy is NOT yet confirmed to be Sony exclusive,” Gene Park, the story’s author, wrote on Twitter. “The article has been amended to only mention Remake and Rebirth.”

The future of Final Fantasy is a unique one, though it looks like PlayStation will be the focus of it, at least for now. At the time of writing, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is still exclusive to the console, though it might be coming to PC sometime after. Square Enix has also confirmed that Final Fantasy XVI will be coming to PC as well, presumably with all the DLC in it.

With Square Enix seemingly hesitant to make this a full PlayStation exclusive, there’s still hope for the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy to come out on Xbox. It took years, but we’re finally going to get Final Fantasy XIV on Microsoft’s system after years of waiting.
