“Hey, you ever wonder why we’re here?” is a question that tore the internet apart way back in 2003. Almost 21 years later, Rooster Teeth’s Halo machinima series Red vs Blue has become so renowned that it’s been featured in an episode of America’s TV game show Jeopardy!
Originally filmed in Halo: Combat Evolved, Red vs Blue is one of the internet’s longest-running web series, focusing on the Red and Blue teams of Halo’s multiplayer and their wacky shenanigans. Most of the time, they just stand around and talk, but also travel through time, battle rogue AI and get impregnated by aliens
Spotted by fans of the web series on Reddit, the latest episode of Jeopardy was the star of a question on the iconic game show. The beloved web series was included in the following question:
“‘Red vs Blue’ are two armies in animated series that is an offshoot of this ‘angelic’ video game franchise.” Of course, the answer is Halo.
Fans of the web series were completely floored by the inclusion of the show in such a mainstream game show. Even more shocking was the fact that the contestant actually got the answer right. While Red vs Blue was wildly popular — even resulting in an adorable Fortnite crossover in the past — it’s still quite an obscure series.
“Lol, I saw it and yelled the answer,” one fan said on the Red vs Blue subreddit. “Never would have expected it.”
While Red vs Blue is drastically less popular now than it used to be, the series is still ongoing. After the poorly received CGI-only spin-off Red vs Blue: Zero, the show’s main story is continuing and concluding with Red vs Blue: Restoration, also known as The Final Season.
Following on from the events of Red vs Blue: Singularity, this final season sees the return of original series writer Burnie Burns to the show. Filmed at least partially in Halo Infinite, the final season aims to be a blockbuster send off to some of the internet’s most beloved characters 21 years after their debut at a boxed canyon in the middle of nowhere.
Red vs Blue: Restoration releases sometime in Spring 2024. The final season will be released in a movie format on streaming services and an episodic show on Rooster Teeth First.
