Helldivers 2 breaks trends with higher sales in second week

Helldivers 2 continues to break all of our expectations, as the multiplayer shooter continues to do well in sales. The game is only at its second week and it has already doubled its sales, which is a rare feat since launch week is usually a game’s peak.

Mat Piscatella, an analyst for Circana Incorporated, went to Twitter to comment on the sequel shooter’s success, noting that these kinds of sales jumps are rare. Piscatella says the sales are even more impressive when you consider that this isn’t even a holiday period where games usually fly off stores.

Arrowhead hasn’t released sales numbers for Helldivers 2 yet, though CEO Johan Pilestedt previously said that the game sold at least 1 million copies (via PlayStation Lifestyle). This means that the game may have sold at least 3 million copies by now, which is a huge boost.

The success of this shooter continues to surprise fans and critics alike, with some appointing it to the simultaneous release on PS5 and PC. Word of mouth seems to also have helped the game quite a bit, as it’s usually a big talking point on social media. Regardless of why it’s a success, Sony has a huge winner on their hand and we wouldn’t be surprised if they did more of these releases.

Fans love Helldivers 2 for plenty of reasons, like the fun gameplay, responsive online multiplayer, and minor microtransactions. Although the game does have a Battle Pass, all of the content there can be unlocked by simply playing the shooter, which is refreshing. With games like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League doing poorly, it seems that we’re truly moving past live-service games, outside of the fighting game genre.
