Hideo Kojima has finally announced his return to the action espionage genre of games. Fans who have been following his work might be surprised at the sudden change of heart, but it comes at what can only be called the realisation after a near-death experience.
Back in 2020, during COVID-19, Hideo Kojima fell ill and had to undergo surgery. "I was at my lowest and felt like I couldn't go back to making games. I wrote a will, too." said the 60-year-old developer. "Having said that, if the users desire it so much, I thought I should change my priorities a bit. I still want to do new things, but I decided to make an action-espionage game." he finished(according to Gamespot).
Kojima is referring to the constant stream of fans who want him to return to the helm of the Metal Gear franchise. While he's no longer associated with Konami, a stealth-action espionage title created by Hideo Kojima would undoubtedly be considered the spiritual successor to the incredibly popular Metal Gear franchise.
"In that moment, I realised that people die" said Hideo Kojima. Kojima said that death felt even more real as he had to write an actual will. Guillermo Del Torro also played a pivotal role in this decision according to Kojima. "I was in a tough spot. And I talked to Guillermo Del Toro about it, and he said 'Hideo, what you're making is already a movie. Keep going as you are.' His words saved me,"
This was his inspiration for returning to the project titled Physint. Physint will blend together the mediums of videogames and movies to deliver a truly unique product. Hideo Kojima is known for taking a lot of artistic liberties that take advantage of the unique medium of video games, and this project aims to use cutting-edge technologies and hyper-realistic graphics to bridge the gap between the two mediums.
While the game itself won't be out anytime soon as Kojima still has to work on Death Stranding 2, the movie for Death Stranding, and OD. According to Kojima, we probably won't be seeing Physint until the release of the PlayStation 6. This also makes Physint the first announced title for the PlayStation 6 whenever that releases.
Kojima has described Physint as the "culmination of my work". We've already seen the Physint trailer, and until it releases we can look forward to new updates on OD and Death Stranding 2.
