Spider-Man 2 developers Insomniac Games were recently infiltrated by hacker group Rhysida, who have since followed through on their threat. In a release of data totalling 1.67 terabytes in size, the hackers have leaked sensitive information regarding the developer's upcoming Marvel's Wolverine title, along with their release plans for the next 12 years.
As reported by CyberDaily, the leaked files were uploaded in three parts, with the first part solely focused on the highly-anticipated Wolverine project. In the first set of data, level designs, concept art, and even the cast of the game were released to the public.
That's not all that was dropped, however, as Rhysida also revealed which games are expected to come out of Insomniac between now and 2035. In addition to Wolverine in 2026, the plans also included Marvel's Venom in 2025, Spider-Man 3 in 2028, a new Ratchet & Clank in 2029, and Marvel's X-Men in 2030, along with two new IPs in 2031 and 2035.
On top of the new releases in the pipeline for Insomniac, the developer has plans for multiplayer modes for their major titles as well. There are reportedly online modes for Spider-Man 2, Wolverine, and X-Men, which are slated for release in 2024, 2026, and 2028, respectively. If this is the case, fans of the 2023 Game of the Year nominee may get some fresh content soon.
The leak, which also included internal information such as budgets, revenue, and sales projections, comes seven days after Rhysida threatened to release the information online. The group was asking for US$2 million for the information and would take bids from anyone, including Sony. A small percentage of this appears to have been sold to a bidder, however, this is rumoured to account for only about 2% of the data that was intercepted.
No word has come from Sony or Insomniac as yet as to their reaction to this leak and what action they plan to take. Whether the reveal will have an impact on the studio's plans for the next few years is yet to be seen.
