Fans hoping to hear more about Kingdom Hearts 4 during this week’s Summer Games Fest are going to be very disappointed. Geoff Keighley, the host of Summer Games Fest and The Game Awards, has confirmed that the Disney/Square Enix crossover game won’t make an appearance.
During a Twitch stream (via Twitter user Genki), Keighley confirmed that there won’t be any news regarding the official fourth entry of this action RPG franchise. While Keighley doesn’t want fans to lose hope for this series, he does feel that they’re setting themselves up for disappointment.
"People keep asking about Kingdom Hearts, I don't know why... People are setting themselves up for failure, but you guys can keep hoping,” Keighley told fans during his stream.
Kingdom Hearts 4 was revealed during the series’ 20th anniversary celebration back in 2022, shocking fans with a vastly different artstyle for Sora. This ended up being a different world, as Donald and Goofy were later shown with their standard KH3 character designs.
There hasn’t been any official news since, with fans not hearing a peep about when this game is coming out and what systems it will be for. Many have assumed that it will be for current-gen systems, which seems likely, but Square Enix haven’t revealed any concrete details.
It’s not all doom and gloom for fans. While Kingdom Hearts 4 won’t be coming out anytime soon, fans will be able to replay most of the series' games on Steam next week. Although these games have had PC releases before, they were all on Epic Games and Steam users are too stubborn to make that transition.
Steam might not be the only home for the Kingdom Hearts series, with insiders claiming that the series is also coming to Switch 2. Rumor has it that the entire franchise will be coming to Switch 2, with Kingdom Hearts 4 supposedly coming to the new system as well.
Don’t expect to see Kingdom Hearts 4 during this week’s Summer Games Fest. Meanwhile, the rest of Square’s Kingdom Hearts games are coming to Steam on June 13.
