No lawsuit is stopping developer Pocket Pair Inc., which is set to shadow-drop Palworld on PlayStation 5 following an announcement during the September 24 State of Play.

Palworld took the gaming world by storm when it was released in January as an early access title on Steam and as part of the Xbox Game Preview program (while being available on Game Pass).

The game exploded in popularity, selling over 7 million copies in its first week out despite being available via Game Pass. This is amid controversies that accused the indie game of using AI-generated art or being a straight rip-off of Pokémon.

A PlayStation release was teased in June when Pocket Pair's Global Community Manager hinted at it via a social media post.

The game is expected to get out of the early access period in 2025, so the PlayStation 5 release doesn't necessarily mean the developers are ready to move to the 1.0 version of the game.

The announcement of Palworld coming to PS5 comes during a troublesome time for Pocket Pair Inc., as Nintendo has sued the developer for alleged patent right infringement.

According to Nintendo: "This lawsuit seeks an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages on the grounds that Palworld, a game developed and released by the Defendant, infringes multiple patent rights."

As the lawsuit resolves, PlayStation gamers will enjoy Palworld and see why it became such a widespread phenomenon earlier in the year.
